EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Farmers are urged to use careful practices to stop weed seeds from spreading during harvest—letting a few escape can add thousands to the soil seed bank and cause long-term problems. Registration opens for the Ohio State Organic Grains Conference on January 7-8, 2026 at Kalahari Resorts & Conventions in Sandusky where experts will share organic grain farming insights. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Today is Veterans Day, a federal holiday that closes federal offices, banks, and post offices. Some delivery services run on regular schedules—local retailers and offices may adjust their hours. The Daily Record
- ➤ Ohioans receiving SNAP benefits will get partial payments starting Nov. 12 — most will receive less than 65% of their usual monthly aid based on income eligibility, while some near the cutoff may not get a payment this week. The state has set aside up to $25 million for food banks and low-income families and will send a notice with the changes. The Daily Record

- ➤ Vitalant is urging eligible donors to give blood this November to help patients and premature babies as donations drop during the holiday season. Blood drives will take place on Nov. 12th at Green Meadow School in Apple Creek from 1 to 6:45 p.m.—on Nov. 19th at Cunningham School in Apple Creek from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and at Brookside School in Orrville from 12:30 to 5:30 p.m.—on Nov. 20th at North Fork School in Dalton from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.—and on Nov. 18th at Orchard Lane School in Shreve from 3 to 7 p.m., with donors eligible for a $10,000 gift card giveaway. - ➤ Ohio’s MRSS program now offers immediate, no-cost crisis help for children and young adults in all 88 counties—trained teams respond within 60 minutes when the 988 Suicide & Crisis Lifeline is called. The program provides up to 42 days of stabilization services to help manage mental, emotional or behavioral distress. The Daily Record
- ➤ ByHeart recalled two batches of its infant formula after the FDA and CDC reported 83 cases of infant botulism in 10 states — Ohio remains unaffected.
