Wayne County officials reported 794 crashes in 2026 with six fatalities, noting that 72 crashes involved unbelted drivers, 38 involved distracted driving, and 28 involved impaired driving, with the latest fatal incident on June 1 (details released by Safe Communities and state troopers).

Today, a groundbreaking ceremony on Lucca Street marked the start of Habitat for Humanity’s new home project in Wooster, following a partnership between the City, the Wayne County Reutilization Corporation, and local groups to expand affordable homeownership. Future homeowner Carrol Way said the project gives her family a place to call home.
High school seniors from the Akron-Canton area were named as 2026 Star Student semifinalists after finishing among the top 50 nominees. Wooster High School’s Renee Sprowls was among the honorees when the results were announced on June 11.
