- ➤ The Pomerene Hospital Auxiliary will host its 16th annual Christmas Festival on Dec. 5-6 at the Berlin Grande Hotel, running from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Dec. 5 plus 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Dec. 6; decor sales and raffles will raise funds for new patient care equipment and facility upgrades at the hospital. - ➤ The Ashland and Wayne County Young Ag Professionals and Medina County Young Farmers will host the ninth annual Ag Toy Drive on November 25 at Lincoln Way Vineyards in Wooster from 5:30 to 8 p.m.—families can donate farm toys, meet Santa and Mrs. Claus, and enjoy a light meal while proceeds fund charities in Ashland, Medina and Wayne counties. - ➤ The Wooster Emblem Club met at the Wooster Elks Lodge as President Paulette Douglas led members in holiday work by providing meals to families, wreaths to veterans, and donations to groups including OneEighty and Homeward Bound. - ➤ Wooster High School’s Drama Club will show a new version of Charlie and the Chocolate Factory at the Performing Arts Center from November 14 to November 23—featuring over 50 students and a live orchestra. Director Brett Hiner said the show, which makes Charlie a girl and changes parts of the classic story, will offer a fun twist that the community has waited for after a two-year delay—ensuring a fresh take on the familiar tale. - ➤ Model train fans will visit 10 stops across Wayne County and nearby areas on November 22 for the 24th annual Route 30 Express Layout Tour in celebration of National Model Train Month. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ College of Wooster’s K-9 Coach class trains students to help new dog owners solve behavior problems with their adopted pets. Professor Laura Sirot created the class as a hands-on project where students call adopters (including shelter families) to offer advice and support. The Bargain Hunter
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ Wayne County Health Commissioner Nick Cascarelli said the WIC program will continue operating normally through November—mothers, infants and children are encouraged to schedule appointments for nutrition education and support, although it is uncertain if services will extend into December if the shutdown persists. - ➤ The Waynedale volleyball team reclaimed district glory under veteran coach John Finn — with seniors bouncing back from a tough season to win a district title and make their fourth regional appearance after defeating Dalton on Oct. 30, while standout Callie Wolfe joined the 1,000-kill, 1,000-dig club.
