EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Farmers are advised to end grazing based on current pasture growth so that grasses keep 3 to 6 inches of top growth, which helps them store energy over winter and start growing in spring. OSU Extension in Wayne County will host a free session on November 10 led by Clint Schroder—farmers should call the Extension Office to RSVP. The Daily Record
- ➤ Nearly 30 local students from Dalton, Smithville, Wooster and Orrville took part in the Envision Your Future event organized by the Orrville Area Chamber of Commerce and Tri-County Educational Service Center. The one-day event used interactive sessions and panels to show how enrollment+employment+enlistment can shape their plans after high school. The Bargain Hunter
- ➤ The 4-H program teaches local youth how to write thank-you notes and shows them why it is important to express gratitude for support. The Extension office collected over 1,400 notes from exhibitors at the Wayne County Junior Fair, with more than $2 million raised for youth projects—these efforts will be honored at a November recognition banquet. - ➤ Orrville football team earned its first playoff win in six years with a 35-28 win over Clear Fork on Oct.31 — the win ended a long playoff drought. They will face top-seeded Shelby on Nov.7 — coach Brent Besancon praised the players' determination for the upcoming contest. The Bargain Hunter
- ➤ Chippewa girls soccer won a 1 to 0 state semifinal match at Edison High School on Tuesday evening as center back Paityn Welty kept Woodmore’s top scorer in check. The team will face defending champions Cincinnati Madeira in the state title game on Saturday—testing their season-long effort. The Daily Record
- ➤ Local runners competed at the state cross country meet on November 1 at Fortress Obetz where Smithville’s Kaitlyn Carr won the Division IV girls title and Orrville’s Owen Lacy finished fifth — several other local athletes placed in both Division III and IV events. The Bargain Hunter
- ➤ Chippewa girls soccer, led by junior Delaney Marshall, earned a spot in the state tournament for the seventh time after winning a Div V regional final 1-0 on Nov. 1 — with sophomore Emme Donnelly scoring the only goal.
