Here's your local news at a glance for Sunday, the 2nd of November.
Good morning, Wooster.
📰 Economy
Gas prices in Ohio fell last week to an average of $2.92 per gallon for regular fuel, down from $3.01 as reported by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.
The state average increased by 7 cents since last month and remained about 3.7% below the national average—showing clear regional pricing trends.
🎓 Education
Douglass Hall reopened today after an $18.5 million renovation — the project added a fully accessible entrance and new suite-style living spaces that increased capacity from 109 to 129 students.
The renovation restored historic features and boosted energy efficiency with modern upgrades.
🏈 Sports
At the state meet last Saturday, Rittman’s Luke Snyder finished as runner-up in the Division VI boys 5K cross country race with a time of 15:24 after a close final push by Ansonia’s Bennett Lehman—Snyder missed a historic three-peat.
Five local runners also earned All-Ohio medals from Wayne County meets, with strong showings from Norwayne and Waynedale athletes.
Smithville senior Kaitlyn Carr won the Division IV state cross country title Saturday at Obetz Fortress Park with a time of 17:29.19, breaking school and county records this season.
Carr, who sought redemption after previous seasons, said she plans to celebrate with Italian food — a reward for her improved endurance workouts and cross training.
