COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Wooster is building a network of paved trails that now spans about 11 miles to connect neighborhoods and nearby towns (including a link to the Holmes County Trail). The plan started in 2015 and will add more routes at local parks and along roads to support biking, walking, and local travel piece by piece. The Bargain Hunter
- ➤ The Village Network broke ground on Oct. 22 at a legacy campus in Wooster for a new residential cottage that will open in June 2026 to provide 10 beds and intensive support for at-risk youth and their families—aiming to reduce out-of-home placements. Local and state mental health agencies are partnering on the project—working to strengthen support for families across Wayne and surrounding counties. The Bargain Hunter
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Wayne Center for the Arts has partnered with Pellegrino Music Center to offer music supplies for sale at its front desk and expand lessons for local students and families. The center now provides lessons in instruments such as piano and guitar—plans include adding music therapy next year to fill the gap left by Larry’s Music. The Bargain Hunter
- ➤ The College of Wooster reopened Douglass Hall after an $18.5 million renovation that restored original woodwork and added accessible, energy-efficient living spaces for 129 students. The updated residence hall now features a new accessible entrance on Wayne Avenue — complete with an exterior elevator — and was celebrated by college officials, project partners, and community leaders this fall. - ➤ Wayne County Care Center has opened a new assisted living floor that gives older adults a chance to live independently with on-site medical care, meals, and housekeeping—two more units are under renovation and will open next month. - ➤ Jackie and Mike Kunkler of Wooster adopted their son Derek from Kazakhstan in December 1998 after a long battle with infertility. Now 26, Derek feels grateful for his adoption—saying it has given him a strong sense of belonging. The Bargain Hunter

- ➤ Between Nov. 17 and 21, the Ohio High School Athletic Association will ask member schools to vote on an emergency bylaw that lets high school athletes profit from their name, image and likeness. The proposal limits school-linked deals and collectives and may lead to self-employment tax (and financial aid changes) for players. The Bargain Hunter
- ➤ Dalton’s football team won 43 to 7 on Friday against Columbiana while Jackson Oswald recorded three touchdown catches, one interception and one fumble recovery for a touchdown — his strong play boosted the team's win.
