- ➤ Downtown Wooster will host its annual Fall Shop Hop on Saturday, October 18 — local retailers will offer special deals while visitors can vote via QR codes in the Scarecrow Showdown contest for a chance to win $100 in Downtown Dollars. - ➤ A Winfield Community Reunion will take place Saturday, Oct. 18 (noon to 3 p.m.) at the former Winfield School on Route 516 west of Dover, now home to Winfield Community Church, and will include a carry-in dinner at 1 p.m. and a short meeting at 2 p.m. All past and current residents plus community friends are invited to join. - ➤ On Oct 7, local musicians performed original pieces and honored composer Mary-Marie Deauclaire at the Wooster Music Club meeting held at Wesley Hall—guests are welcome to join future events to enjoy more original works. The program featured flute duets, piano pieces, and unique compositions in a lively presentation. The Daily Record
- ➤ Detroit rock 'n' roll icon Mitch Ryder and The Detroit Wheels will perform at Wooster High School’s Performing Arts Center on Oct. 25 from 8:00 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. They will also host a meet-and-greet at the Lyric Theater from 5:00 p.m. to 6:00 p.m.—the events raise funds for local arts and support the Lyric Theater renovation while fulfilling a 57-year-old promise. - ➤ Wooster author Joanne Lehman will release her second Christian fiction novel 'Susan’s Hope' on Oct. 25, which follows Amish woman Susan Troyer as she struggles with past mistakes while seeking forgiveness and hope. Lehman will sign books at Gospel Bookstore in Berlin from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. on Oct. 25 — with a second signing scheduled at Buckeye Book Fair on Nov. 1 in Wooster. The Bargain Hunter
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Wooster’s Olivia Lang graduated from Ohio Farm Bureau’s AgriPOWER Class XV—a yearlong leadership program that builds agricultural advocacy and policy skills. The program included visits to Washington, D.C. and California to expose participants to national issues and diverse farming practices. The Bargain Hunter
- ➤ Brenda Ziegler, coordinator for Caring Therapy Canines, will lead a talk on pet therapy benefits, dog training, and safety — featuring live dog demonstrations, a Q&A, and a free raffle — at Wayne County Public Library on Thursday, Oct. 23 at 7 p.m. Sponsored by Wooster Friends of the Library, the event will explain the differences between therapy and service dogs. - ➤ More than 320 high school and career center students took part in Manufacturing Day organized by the Wooster Area Chamber of Commerce — the event connected them with 12 Wayne County manufacturers — to learn about advanced robotics, precision engineering and future career paths. The Daily Record
- ➤ Avery Becker from Wooster High was named to the dean’s list for the 2025 spring trimester at Palmer College of Chiropractic’s Port Orange campus — an honor recognizing his academic achievement. The Bargain Hunter

- ➤ The Wayne County Health Department received $46,200 in federal funding from the Ohio Traffic Safety Office to help address traffic safety concerns in the county — it will use the funds to continue the Safe Communities Coalition and hold 12 events focused on impaired driving, seat belt use, distracted driving, motorcycle awareness and young drivers.
