COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Young bakers raised $11,800 at the Wayne County Fair auction using nearly 50 entries of cookies, cakes and pies to fund scholarships and support junior fair activities—attendees also benefited from a family and consumer sciences exhibit that featured hands-on demonstrations and expert presentations during the fair from Sept. 6 to 11.  The Bargain Hunter
  • St. Mary Church in Wooster will host a six‑week program called Catholics Returning Home—designed for lapsed Catholics to reconnect with their faith—starting Oct. 13 from 7 to 8:30 p.m. in the Parish Hall at 527 Beall Ave.  The Daily Record
  • The Wooster Emblem Club celebrated its 64th anniversary by honoring past leaders, sharing scrapbooks, and planning community service projects—such as adopting families at Thanksgiving and Christmas—while members enjoyed a potluck lunch and received reports on upcoming events including a luncheon on Oct 15, a dinner on Nov 12, and buckeye making on Dec 3 and Dec 10.   • The final day of Woosterfest was filled with a Wienermobile, Wiener dog races, sausage toss, hammering nails and beer stein races—bringing fun and energy to local fans. Organizers said the event ended as a lively celebration of community traditions.  The Daily Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Wayne County Schools Career Center reopened its student-run restaurant, 518 Bistro, on Sept. 23—offering fresh, rotating buffet meals and hands-on training for culinary arts students. The restaurant opens Tuesdays through Thursdays from 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.—with a brunch-inspired menu available through Oct. 17 for $9 per person.  The Bargain Hunter

SPORTS NEWS

  • Wooster native Kyle Plumly, a former state champion, now coaches Poland’s lacrosse team as it prepares for the Los Angeles Olympics in 2028 — he will intensify training and join regional tournaments in October to secure a spot at the Games.  The Bargain Hunter
