COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Yesterday the 42nd annual Woosterfest started with a ceremonial keg tapping at 12 noon and continued with music, games and contests until 11 p.m., drawing a large crowd under warm weather. Local competitions such as pig eating contests and a Stein holding challenge captured the community's attention.  The Daily Record

CULTURE NEWS

  • Wooster native Philip Giffin, an Emmy-nominated composer and producer, will speak on Oct. 2 at 7 p.m. at Wooster High School about his work in film and television as part of the Wayne County Historical Society’s From Wooster to Hollywood program—donations will be accepted.  The Bargain Hunter
  • OHuddle unveiled its 600-foot Odyssey Mural in downtown Wooster on Aug. 25—youth blended art, technology and mentorship on the historic Newberry Building at 149 E. Liberty St. The project, part of a statewide recognition program, invites viewers to scan a QR code to see animations evolve as new art is added.  The Bargain Hunter

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Wooster High School Class of 1965 donated $10,000 to the Wayne County Schools Career Center to help cover tuition, supplies and other program costs for adult education students. Alumni Bryan 'Buzz' Grosjean — and Ed Schaaf — presented the donation gathered from reunion fees to support multiple students.  The Bargain Hunter
  • Wooster City Schools started the school year on Aug. 20 and will provide free breakfast and lunch to all students by joining the Community Eligibility Provision—ensuring every child gets a full meal each school day.  The Bargain Hunter

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Recent records show that officials have filed marriage licenses in Wayne and Holmes counties and recorded a marriage dissolution in Wooster. The documents list couples with names, addresses, and filing years from 1993 to 2023 + reflect updated vital statistics for local communities.  The Daily Record

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Village Network launched its National Counseling and Training Center in Wooster to offer trauma-informed care training and consultation nationwide. It opened on the lower level of its corporate offices and held an open house on Sept. 10—demonstrating new technology for remote clinician support.  The Bargain Hunter
  • Austin-Bailey Health and Wellness Foundation trustees approved $197,400 in grants and scholarships to 12 non-profits and nine schools—funding health programs in Holmes, Stark, Tuscarawas and Wayne counties—and eligible organizations must call the foundation office by Nov. 18 for the next cycle.  The Daily Record

SPORTS NEWS

  • At IVC play, Hiland swept Claymont and Sandy Valley in three-set volleyball wins while the boys soccer team won 6-0, and the teams had strong finishes in golf. The girls soccer team lost 4-3 to Wooster—adding to a busy week in competition for Hiland.  The Bargain Hunter
  • Ohio high school football Week 6 games were played on Friday night in Wayne and Holmes counties—local teams competed and live score updates were provided as the season continues.  The Daily Record
  • High school football statistical leaders through Week 5 have been released. Triway’s quarterback Luke Starr leads with 1,269 passing yards while Hillsdale's Owen Sloan tops rushing with 675 yards and Norwayne’s Ryder Ingold holds 773 all-purpose yards—other schools are still updating their stats.  The Bargain Hunter
