COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Downtown Wooster will host the 43rd annual Woosterfest from Sept 26 to Sept 27 with live music, German food, contests and fun activities including a Wiener Dog Race—organized by the Wooster Area Chamber of Commerce. The festival will feature local vendors and family-friendly events rain or shine.  The Daily Record
  • The Wayne Center for the Arts will host its Fall Festival on Oct. 4 from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. at 237 S. Walnut St. in Wooster where live music, mini art classes, a bounce house, and artisan vendors offer fun for all ages — organizers will also preview plans for the upcoming Arts Park.  The Daily Record
  • J.M. Smucker Company has donated its retail store and 30 acres of land to the Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank and will add $1 million over five years to help expand its operations in Wayne County. The store will close in January and the food bank will take over in March—officials said they will soon meet with local partners to decide the best use of the new space.  The Daily Record

CULTURE NEWS

  • The giant OHuddle mural—created on the side of the former Newberry building in downtown Wooster—was dedicated recently.  The Daily Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Wooster High School Class of 1965 donated $10K to the Wayne County Schools Career Center Adult Education program to help cover tuition, fees and supplies. Alumni Bryan Buzz Grosjean + Ed Schaaf presented the funds so the money can fill gaps for course requirements.  The Daily Record
  • Ohio State announced the Regional Campus Commitment program that will cover tuition and fees for low income students at regional campuses including Wooster—starting fall 2026. Eligible students must file FAFSA and meet income guidelines to qualify for the program.  The Daily Record

REAL ESTATE NEWS

  • In Wayne County the median home listing price was $305,000 in August—up from $303,175 in July. Homes were on the market for 36 days as listings increased to 104 and the price per square foot rose compared to last August.  The Daily Record
  • Data from Realtor.com shows that in Holmes County the median home was listed for $345,000 in August, down from last month’s $346,975+homes stayed on the market for 40 days as only 16 new listings appeared and the price per square foot rose to $187, which is 18.6 percent higher than last August. In the Wooster metro area the median home price increased to $305,000 with homes averaging 1,952 square feet at $161 per square foot.  The Daily Record

SPORTS NEWS

  • Friday's WCAL game in Jeromesville will feature undefeated Hillsdale and undefeated Smithville, both 5-0, as they battle for first in the conference. Hillsdale will use its experience and strong defense to test Smithville's run game — a matchup expected to decide the win.  The Daily Record
