  • Families can explore fall corn mazes at Ramseyer Farms in Wooster and Honey Haven Farm in Ashland—both offering hayrides, pumpkin picking, and other farm attractions, with Ramseyer Farms open through Oct. 31 and Honey Haven Farm open from Sept. 27 to Oct. 26.  The Daily Record

CULTURE NEWS

  • The College of Wooster is hosting a fall arts season with music ensembles, theatre and dance performances and a visual art exhibit titled Mud + Corn + Stone + Blue that opened Sept. 9 at the College of Wooster Art Museum. Upcoming events will include a Celebration of the Arts and a Homecoming Concert on Sept. 19.  The Daily Record
  • The Cleo Redd Fisher Museum is preserving the Copus Hill Historic Site—where Ohio militia and Native Americans fought in 1812—by safeguarding the battlefield as a memorial. The museum will host a public program in March to share new study findings and expand visitor access to the site.  The Daily Record

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Data from Zumper shows that Wooster apartment rent prices increased 21% from last August’s median of $990 to a typical listing of $1,198 in August. Prices are up 4% since last month + two-bedroom apartments rose 8% from July, reflecting higher costs across the board.  The Daily Record

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Volunteers reported 428 sandhill cranes in Ohio during the 2025 Midwest Crane Count on April 12—showing a 4% rise from last year's 412. Observers from 31 counties noted Wayne led with 101 cranes, followed by Lucas, Ottawa, Geauga, and Sandusky.  The Daily Record
  • AccuWeather predicts that Ohio’s fall foliage will peak in mid-October as leaves begin to change late September, while Old Farmer’s Almanac projects vibrant colors lasting into early November—contrasting with last fall’s early, muted display from drought. The forecast comes after a summer of near-normal spring rains and a dry August that may shape this year’s display.  The Daily Record

HEALTH NEWS

  • The Boys & Girls Club earned a national grant from the Rachael Ray Foundation to expand its Healthy for Me program that teaches Wooster kids cooking skills and proper nutrition through hands-on lessons and farm visits from Local Roots. The grant will pay for ingredients, aprons, and a youth-created cookbook—steps aimed at addressing local youth nutrition challenges.  The Daily Record

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Hiland girls soccer team edged River View in a 2 to 1 win on Sept. 9 with Italee Mullet leading the score. On the same day—boys soccer won 6 to 0 over Tusky Valley, boys golf beat Tuscarawas Central Catholic 160 to 220, and the volleyball team lost a match that went to five sets against Garaway.  The Bargain Hunter
  • On Sept. 6, the West Holmes girls cross country team won the Division III race at the Wooster Invite with Iriel Mena posting a record time of 18:54 – the Knights also secured wins in football, soccer and golf throughout the week.  The Bargain Hunter
  • The Garaway Pirates won 36-35 on Sept. 5 when a late two-point conversion by Wyatt Reifenschneider ended a strong rally. The team fought hard even after losing captain Colsen Keller early and dealing with turnovers — they showed true grit against Norwayne.  The Bargain Hunter
