EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Loudonville-Perrysville Schools will launch the Hope Squad this fall to help students in grades 4-12 lead a peer support program aimed at suicide prevention and building safe schools—students nominated by peers will receive training to spot warning signs and connect classmates with trusted adults—advisors and the counseling team have already prepared by attending specialized training. - ➤ Chippewa High School was named one of the top high schools in the nation and the best in Wayne County in the 2025–2026 rankings by U.S. News and World Report—an honor that reflects its strong academics, high graduation rates, and focus on college readiness. The Daily Record
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The American Heart Association set up two free blood pressure hubs—one at Orrville YMCA and one at Wooster YMCA—to help local residents check their health. The stations offer tips on correct readings and list local doctors for follow-up, and the project is supported by a local grant. The Daily Record
- ➤ Pomerene Hospital received the American Heart Association’s Get With The Guidelines—Rural Stroke Bronze Award for 2025—after stroke care data from July 1 through Sept. 30, 2024 showed strong improvements in treatment. The Daily Record
- ➤ Pomerene Hospital received a donation from its auxiliary to replace flooring in the obstetrics unit; the upgrade aims to improve safety and comfort for mothers, babies + families. The Daily Record
- ➤ The American Heart Association and the American College of Cardiology released new blood pressure guidelines that urge Ohioans to lower salt and alcohol intake, use a heart healthy diet, and get more exercise—steps designed to reduce risks of stroke and heart disease. The recommendations also advise at-home blood pressure checks and following the DASH eating plan to keep high blood pressure in check. The Daily Record
