COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Today, the remains of 1st Lt. William Hott—killed on Dec. 1 during the Korean War—are laid to rest in the family plot near Holmesville after a Monday service attended by nearly 200 people. Family and local officials thanked the Patriot Motorcycle Group for escorting his remains from Cleveland and honoring his sacrifice. The Daily Record
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ The Wayne County Stitchers announced fall events for National Sewing Month with a handmade items showcase at the Wooster Public Library from Sept. 2 to 30 plus their 10th annual Sewing Fest on Oct. 4 at Church of Cross United Methodist where doors open at 8:30 a.m. The club will offer classes, vendors plus a fabric fair, hold raffles and meet at 10 a.m. on Sept. 9 at Church of the Cross while members made over 50 apple-themed items in August that will be donated to a local home and face a challenge to craft items featuring leaves. - ➤ After public hearings, Wayne County commissioners decided not to put the property and sales tax revision plan on the November ballot—officials cited concerns over future tax increases. They will gather more input and hold additional hearings before deciding on any changes. The Daily Record

- ➤ The Wooster Daily Record released Week 1 high school football power rankings for 14 Wayne–Holmes County schools—Wooster dropped to No. 10 after a loss to Orrville while Norwayne moved to the top after a strong win. Teams have upcoming home and away games this week to adjust their standings. The Daily Record
