CULTURE NEWS

  • Holmes Center for the Arts has announced fall visual art classes for homeschooled and community learners that start on Aug. 28 and run through November. The courses cover traditional drawing, digital art, ceramics, and calligraphy—fees vary and enrollment is limited.  The Bargain Hunter

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA has issued a recall for frozen shrimp sold at Walmart in 13 states including Ohio after tests found possible contamination with Cesium-137, a radioactive chemical that can pose health risks. Consumers with the recalled product should throw it away and contact their doctor if they experience symptoms.  The Daily Record
  • Today, Pomerene Hospital was honored with the American Heart Association's Get With The Guidelines Rural Stroke Bronze Award for showing better stroke care in the community during July 1 through Sept. 30, 2024 (the award recognizes strong efforts in rural stroke treatment).  The Bargain Hunter

  • Ohio high school football week 1 preview shows matchups across the region from Holmes and Wayne to Tuscarawas, highlighting teams with strong traditions and new head coaches now setting the stage for the 2025 season. The preview outlines key details including last season’s scores and the 114th rivalry game between Wooster and Orrville — a historic meeting with both schools starting fresh this year.  The Bargain Hunter
  • On August 19, the Hiland boys soccer team beat Smithville 4-1 as Noah Troyer scored twice while Christian Mullet and Blake Stutzman added goals and Chase Coblentz saved twice. The girls soccer team won 5-0 over Northwestern—Minka Mullet scored twice—and the boys and girls golf teams showed strong play with a 149-201 win over Tusky Valley and a 173-223 loss to Garaway.  The Bargain Hunter
