COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Downtown Wooster is buzzing with events as Main Street Music plays at the Public Square from 6 to 8 p.m. on Thursday through Saturday, a free community meal is served Thursday at Jeromesville Lutheran Church, and a Saturday Farmers' Market opens from 8 a.m. to 12 p.m. along North Market Street. Other local activities include a GriefShare support group meeting at Wooster United Methodist Church today, auditions for Miracle on 34th Street later this week, and Orrville’s Festival on the Lawn with vendors, food trucks, and games scheduled for Saturday, Aug. 23—providing many choices for community members. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Holmes Center for the Arts is offering fall art classes that run from late August to November—these courses teach painting, pottery and other skills for kids, teens and adults. The lessons cost from $5 to $160 plus extra fees and are held on different days and times. The Daily Record
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Bald eagles are returning to Ohio with 964 active nests across 87 counties—showing a 36% increase since the last census—while bobcats and black bears are also seen more often due to habitat restoration and better monitoring in the state. The Daily Record
- ➤ Killbuck Watershed Land Trust has set up a new conservation fund with a gift from the Gabele family through its partnership with the Holmes County Education and Community Foundation. The fund will support projects to protect farmland and nature preserves — efforts that will help keep the area beautiful. The Daily Record
