- ➤ Gerald A. Payn will present a free Civil War program on Tuesday, Aug. 19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wayne County Historical Society Schoolhouse in Wooster. He will discuss local figures — Gen. David Stanley, a Wayne County-born Medal of Honor recipient, and Maj. Thomas Eckert, a military telegraph pioneer — who played key roles during the conflict. The Daily Record
- ➤ The August full moon—known as the sturgeon moon—will reach peak illumination on August 9 at 3:55 a.m. ET and will rise in the east shortly after sunset, letting stargazers see it set near an alignment of Venus, Jupiter and Saturn. Its name comes from a large fish once common in local lakes that Native Americans relied on for food. The Daily Record

- ➤ A coronal mass ejection from the sun is headed toward Earth and is expected to trigger a moderate geomagnetic storm that may bring auroras to up to 18 states.
