🎭 Culture
Gerald A. Payn will present a free Civil War program on Tuesday, Aug.
19 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wayne County Historical Society Schoolhouse in Wooster. He will discuss local figures — Gen. David Stanley, a Wayne County-born Medal of Honor recipient, and Maj. Thomas Eckert, a military telegraph pioneer — who played key roles during the conflict.
The August full moon—known as the sturgeon moon—will reach peak illumination on August 9 at 3:55 a.m. ET and will rise in the east shortly after sunset, letting stargazers see it set near an alignment of Venus, Jupiter and Saturn.
Its name comes from a large fish once common in local lakes that Native Americans relied on for food.
🌲 Environment
A coronal mass ejection from the sun is headed toward Earth and is expected to trigger a moderate geomagnetic storm that may bring auroras to up to 18 states.
In northern Ohio, the aurora might only be seen near Lake Erie—local skywatchers should seek dark spots away from city lights.
