COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ The Wayne County Stitchers are planning to decorate two glass cases at the local library for National Sewing Month and invite members to bring hand-sewn items for display in August and September. The club will hold its annual Sewing Fest on Oct. 4 with 26 classes planned — the next meeting is at 10 a.m. Aug. 12 at Church of the Cross. The Daily Record
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Ohio's new law bans cellphones in public schools by January 1st but does not require private schools to follow the rule. Several private schools, including Cincinnati Country Day School and 23 schools in the Ohio Christian Education Network, have already banned cellphones during the school day—an effort to keep students focused. - ➤ Janaki Jagannathan, a women’s tennis alumna at The College of Wooster, earned the school’s 14th NCAA Postgraduate Scholarship and is the first from the women’s tennis team; she will begin graduate studies in mental health counseling at Boston College’s Lynch School of Education this fall—using the award to support her mission of offering culturally good care. - ➤ Biltz addressed the council today regarding rezoning concerns raised by community members & stressed the need for careful review of the proposed plans. The council will hold additional meetings & invite more public input before making any decisions. The Daily Record

- ➤ Viola Startzman Clinic in Wooster is marking 30 years of service with its secondary building on Cleveland Road providing both primary and mental health care. Executive Director Mark Yoder said patient numbers have tripled over the past five years — the clinic offers free medication help, telehealth consultations, and a lab for blood draws.
