COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Walnut Hills Retirement Community will host its fourth annual Ice Cream Extravaganza and Resource Fair on Thursday, July 17 from noon to 3 p.m.—guests will enjoy campus tours of living options and samples from five local ice cream vendors. Visitors will also access free health checks, a medication take-back service and other community resources with door prizes offered.  The Daily Record

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Ed Flinner bought Frontz Drilling in 2023 and renamed it Flinner Drilling to fulfill his long-time dream; the company now works from 2031 Millersburg Road with his son Eddie helping serve residential and commercial customers by drilling wells and treating water — a move that continues a three-generation legacy in the industry.  The Bargain Hunter

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Frank Becker of OSU Extension wrote an article on home fruit growing that explains how homeowners can manage pests and get quality yields by using guides — the article details resources like the Midwest Home Fruit Production Guide and disease management bulletins. He also advised local residents to use cultural calendars and contact their extension office for help with their fruit plantings.  The Bargain Hunter

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • A new state law will require online pornography providers to verify users are 18 or older by checking photo IDs or transaction records. The law, approved in June (taking effect late September), warns that non-compliance may lead to civil lawsuits.  The Daily Record

SPORTS NEWS

  • Today, the Ohio High School Athletic Association said that expanding athletic divisions in most sports has allowed more schools, like the Garaway Lady Pirates softball team, to play at state for the first time. The change, which began last school year to create fairer play and help small schools, will lead to more tweaks as officials learn from this first year — they expect more improvements soon.  The Bargain Hunter
