COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Ohio is inviting readers to vote for their favorite state park among 10 popular choices until Friday, July 11th at noon—results will be posted online. The Daily Record
- ➤ Wooster Friends of the Library will host the Summer Book Sale at the Book Cellar at 304 N. Market St from July 17—19, with books priced between 25 cents and $1.25 and special deals such as buy one, get one free on select biography titles. A members-only preview will run on July 16 from 5—7 p.m. and the final day will feature a $5 bag sale, with proceeds benefiting the Wayne County Public Library. The Daily Record
- ➤ United Way of Wayne and Holmes Counties named Ashley Hershberger as its new associate director and she will start on July 14 to fill a vacancy held since 2022. Hershberger, a Wooster native with 18 years at the City of Wooster, has served on local boards — including the West Holmes Athletic Booster Club — and will support community programs. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ College of Wooster’s Soup and Bread program together with the Wooster Volunteer Network and Martin Luther King Jr. Day Committee raised over $12,000 this spring to erase school lunch debt for Wooster City Schools' free and reduced lunch program—this fundraiser uses weekly meal swipe donations and special events to support local students. - ➤ United Way Wayne and Holmes Counties and the Wayne County Public Library ran the spring Reading Under the Lights program+ it gave over 12,600 books to 2,380 students from Wooster and nearby schools; the program will continue with summer Read and Play Nights+ to help students keep their reading skills. - ➤ The Wooster Open tennis tournament will take place July 25-27 at the Aspen Racquet Club and will benefit local high school tennis programs and scholarships.
