COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Wayne County Public Library in Wooster hosts the annual Kids Day celebration from noon to 3 p.m. on Saturday, June 14th — the event offers free activities including face painting, games and emergency vehicle exploration with awards given at 1:30 p.m.  The Bargain Hunter
  • The Wayne County Community Foundation approved $26,500 in grants for five local nonprofits that support community wellness and success. The funds helped the Boys and Girls Club in Wooster with nutrition education, Friendship Meals Inc. with food supplies, the Viola Startzman Clinic with mental health care, OHuddle with mentorship programs, and the Counseling Center with telehealth services + they will build capacity for local community projects.  The Bargain Hunter
  • Fusion Community Church in Killbuck is hosting Munchin’ Mondays, a free lunch program for children in the West Holmes Local School District held at Killbuck Community Park from noon to 1 p.m. every Monday in June and July — the program offers varied meals like sandwiches, pizza or tacos with fruit, a vegetable, dessert and a drink while the church also donated funds to clear lunch debt at Killbuck Elementary.  The Daily Record
  • The Wayne County Community Foundation awarded $404,685.45 in grants to 19 local organizations in May to address repairs, equipment needs and program support—funds came from various community and field interest donations. Nonprofit groups can apply for funding by March 1 and Sept 1 each year.  The Daily Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The Wayne County Civil War Round Table program will be held on June 17 at 6:30 p.m. at the Wayne County Historical Society schoolhouse, 546 E. Bowman St. in Wooster, where Civil War historian Justin Mays will present The Forgotten Division+ explain the role of the Kanawha Division in key battles.  The Bargain Hunter
  • Several Buckeye Career Center alumni helped build a new medical facility at their former school and installed key parts for an expansion that is set to be completed in August — a project that underscores the lasting value of career-technical education.  The Bargain Hunter
