  • Wooster native Justin Roberts has become a licensed funeral director at Roberts Funeral Home (in Sherwood Memorial Gardens) after completing a yearlong apprenticeship with his father. He earned degrees at Wooster High and Ohio State University before finishing mortuary school.  The Daily Record

CULTURE NEWS

  • Genealogy experts at Wayne County Public Library said old newspapers are a treasure trove for finding family roots during their recent 'Hot Off the (Old) Press' presentation at America 250 programming. Ongoing digitization projects aim to preserve these records despite copyright restrictions and funding challenges.  The Daily Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • West Holmes FFA achieved state honors this spring by placing 10th in dairy cattle judging at Ohio State ATI on April 24 and finishing 9th in the spring trap shoot at Sugarcreek Sportsman’s Club on April 18 (featuring top individual scores).  The Bargain Hunter
  • On May 29, 2026, Wayne County students planted a Liberty Tree at the Career Center in Smithville to mark America's 250th anniversary. Organized by the Student Leadership Council and FFA, the event celebrated patriotism (a living symbol of unity) and showcased local school programs.  The Daily Record

HEALTH NEWS

  • Harrison Community Hospital hosted an open house that showcased its new 3D mammography unit, which uses a MammoPad (a breast cushion) and SmartCurve (a curved compression paddle) for clearer, more comfortable imaging.
