COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The Wooster community has a busy schedule of events this Memorial Day weekend and coming weeks, with free Main Street Music concerts today, Friday and Saturday at the Public Square pavilion, a Saturday farmers' market on North Market Street, and an Organ Recital Saturday at Loudonville First Baptist Church honoring veterans — later events include Wednesdays on Walnut concerts, a Car & Truck Show on June 1, a Fair-Style BBQ Chicken Drive Thru on June 7, Relay For Life and a Square Dance on June 14.  The Daily Record
  • Wayne County will hold several Memorial Day events including a 9 a.m. parade and service in Wooster on Monday, May 26 that starts at the Wayne County Fairgrounds and proceeds to Wooster Cemetery—other events include a 9:30 a.m. parade in Shreve led by the American Legion, a 10 a.m. parade and ceremony in Rittman, a 9 a.m. parade in Doylestown that ends with a hot dog reception, a 10 a.m. parade in Creston, and a flag placement on Saturday, May 24 with a service at 2 p.m. on Sunday at Ohio Western Reserve National Cemetery.  The Daily Record

CULTURE NEWS

  • The Wayne County Performing Arts Council will present Disney's 'Alice in Wonderland Jr.' at Fisher Auditorium at 1680 Madison Ave in Wooster at 7 p.m. on June 13-14 and June 20-21 and at 2 p.m. on June 22. Tickets went on sale May 21 and young local performers will bring classic characters to life under the direction of Olivia Ickes and music direction of Maggie Leatherman.  The Daily Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Katie Roth has been named the new principal at Parkview Elementary—she served as an administrative intern at Cornerstone Elementary and holds degrees from Ashland University and Kent State University; she lives in Wooster with her husband and plans to build a strong school community.  The Daily Record
  • The College of Wooster held its 155th commencement ceremony for the Class of 2025 on May 17 at the Scot Center where over 450 graduates celebrated with speeches from President Anne McCall and alumna Mesky Brhane that credited a liberal arts education with building critical thinking and adaptability. The speakers—who also delivered a benediction and musical performance—urged the graduates to confidently face future challenges.  The Bargain Hunter
