COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Memorial Day services in Sugarcreek will be held on May 26 with ceremonies beginning at 7:45 a.m. at the Walnut Creek memorial and continuing at several cemeteries (including Dundee, Eastlawn, Union Hill, Ragersville and Baltic) with flags available from Post 494; the events will feature a speech by U.S. Air Force veteran Jeff Schrock (recently honored as a local veteran leader) as locals pay tribute to veterans. - ➤ Plain Values in Winesburg has made its recording studio available at no cost for families to record their history on audio or video. A pilot podcast featuring local figures has already been produced — families receive a flash drive of their session to preserve their memories for future generations. The Bargain Hunter
- ➤ Tomorrow, the Wayne County Historical Society Schoolhouse in Wooster will host a Civil War Roundtable at 6:30 p.m.—with Carolyn Becker Caskey portraying Mother Mary Ann Bickerdyke—while Sunny Slope Winery in Big Prairie will host live band karaoke from 6—9 p.m. Downtown Wooster will hold Ladies Night Out on May 22, Truth Baptist Church in West Salem will hold a rummage sale on May 23–24, and the Orrville Farmers Market in Orrville will offer local produce on May 24. CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Yesterday, Killbuck Valley Museum in Killbuck unveiled a new collection from Dr. Nigel Brush that adds ancient rocks, fossils, and mastodon bones to its display—items once shown at Ashland University. The museum now offers group tours and will host Brush for a special talk in July to highlight the Ice Age history of the region. The Bargain Hunter
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Wooster High School graduated 272 seniors on Sunday, May 18 at Follis Field—students received their diplomas quickly and celebrated moving on to the next chapter. Family and friends filled the field to support the class that overcame challenges during their four years in high school. The Daily Record
- ➤ Local resident Ted Hill urged citizens to run for one of three open school board seats to be filled in November. The board of elections will host candidate academy sessions on May 20 at 7 p.m. and June 24 at 7 p.m. (registration is required) to help prepare candidates. The Bargain Hunter

6-8 p.m. — Wayne Lanes — Registration includes bowling, pizza, and drinks — Enjoy a fun night of bowling while supporting individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.
