COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Wayne County Children Services faces a foster care shortage that is forcing children to be placed far from home — sometimes out-of-state. The high cost of residential care strains the budget, and community members are urged to serve as temporary foster families to help bridge the gap.  The Daily Record
  • Aaron Catlett, owner of A/C Plumbing, Heating and Cooling LLC, was named the 2026 Distinguished Service Award recipient by the Carroll County Dairy Board for his support at the fairgrounds. He helped maintain the milk booth during busy fair events.  The Bargain Hunter

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Six JVS early childhood education students competed in the FCCLA state event at the Columbus Expo Center from April 15-17; Bella Price + Madison West earned third place in lesson presentation after ranking in the top 10 regionally.  The Bargain Hunter
  • Northwestern Wayne FFA members attended the 98th Ohio FFA Convention from April 30 to May 1, touring farms and hearing speakers (including Brad Hurtig and Jason Hewlett) on perseverance and leadership. The group earned awards and recognition for their efforts and celebrated accomplishments with three Gold Rated officers.  The Daily Record
  • Northwestern FFA Chapter won gold at the first Ag Olympics held on April 20 behind the ag shop, where members competed in fun agricultural challenges (including a wheelbarrow race and straw bale high jump) and enjoyed mac and cheese.  The Daily Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • U.S. Rep. Max Miller filed a defamation suit in Cuyahoga County Common Pleas Court on May 13, accusing his ex-wife, Elizabeth Moreno, of making false statements during their custody dispute+ actions that he says were meant to hurt his reputation and re-election chances. The case remains under review.  The Daily Record

SPORTS NEWS

  • West Holmes' Maddax Graham won the discus event at the OCC meet on Friday, May 15 at Ashland University using improved technique after an early throw went out of bounds (his best legal throw measured 159'10). He will prepare for the upcoming OHSAA district meet.  The Daily Record
