Good morning, Wooster. Here's your local news at a glance for Friday, the 16th of May.

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Aldi is buying former Big Lots sites in Louisiana, Michigan, and Texas—none of which are in Ohio—and said it will open several locations in Ohio later this year. Big Lots reopened eight Ohio stores on May 15 while retailers like Ollie's Bargain Outlet acquired four Ohio sites in Middletown, Bowling Green, Chardon and Findlay.  The Daily Record
  • More than 1,200 Starbucks workers (union members) went on strike at 23 union stores in Ohio after a new dress code requiring solid black tops took effect on May 12. Starbucks said the policy change, which aims to let its green apron stand out, has affected only a small number of its over 480 stores nationwide (the company calls the protest a minor disruption).  The Daily Record

SPORTS NEWS

  • The 2025 Jeff Beery Memorial Tournament will be held on May 24 and May 25 at the Wooster Soccer Complex to honor the local coach who dedicated years to youth sports.
