- ➤ Wooster locals have a busy week with free concerts at the Public Square from today through Saturday and a Nickelodeon The Spongebob Musical at Green Middle School beginning Friday. The weekend also brings a downtown farmers’ market Saturday morning with live music and vendors, a Color Fun Walk/Run at Freer Field in Ashland, and more community events scheduled through July — offering many ways to get involved. - ➤ Orr Valley Creamery partnered with Michael’s Bakery to introduce handcrafted sponge dough buns at its Orrville and Wooster stores today—baked with a two-stage fermentation process that boosts flavor and has driven record sales. - ➤ Wayne County will host a series of festivals in 2025 that bring food, live music and community events. Local celebrations include the free Wayne County Music and Rib Fest at Wooster Fairgrounds (May 30-31) and Woosterfest downtown (Sept. 26-27), with several other events scheduled countywide. - ➤ Memorial Day is observed on May 26 and, as a federal holiday, banks, mail delivery, FedEx & UPS will be closed while the stock market remains off with some grocery stores running limited hours. Forecasts predict stormy weather and trash pickup in major cities will be delayed, so residents should plan accordingly. The Daily Record
- ➤ OneEighty received a Recovery Emergency Rental Assistance Grant from the Wayne County Community Foundation to help 44 households and 90 individuals in Wayne County pay first month’s rent and deposits, which prevents evictions. The funding helps those who do not qualify for state and federal aid—one resident recovering from a construction injury kept his home with the grant. The Daily Record
- ➤ Wayne County Board of Elections announced a free Candidate Academy for local candidates that will run one-hour sessions on May 20 and June 24—covering petition filing, verification and campaign finance requirements with pre-registration required. The Daily Record

- ➤ Waynedale’s Golden Bears posted a 19-1 record and clinched the conference championship on May 14—earning 18 of 19 first-place votes in the state rankings. The team will begin its postseason on May 23 with a home game against East Cleveland Shaw and aims to win its third state title in four seasons. The Bargain Hunter
- ➤ On May 13, Hiland lost 14-3 to Shadyside — knocking them out of the playoff sectionals — while West Holmes beat River View 9-3 to advance in area softball playoffs. The Daily Record
