COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Winesburg will hold its Memorial Day observance on May 25. The event will start at 9:15 a.m. with a parade from the water tower to Westlawn Cemetery for a memorial service led by State Rep. Beth Lear and will include patriotic music and refreshments at the fire station.  The Bargain Hunter
  • Tuscarawas County veteran Jack Everett was named Veteran of the Year on May 12 at the American Legion Post 494 in Sugarcreek. He is honored for decades of service to veterans (including his heroic actions in Vietnam) and long-term community support.  The Bargain Hunter

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Northwestern Wayne FFA Chapter students competed at the State General Livestock Judging event, with high school + middle school teams earning top placements. Makenna Connelly placed fifth in the high school state finals held on April 24 at the Don Scott Animal Science Facility at OSU.  The Daily Record

HEALTH NEWS

  • Wooster Community Hospital received an A rating for patient safety from The Leapfrog Group on Wednesday, May 13, based on its record in preventing errors, injuries and infections. The hospital credited its team for meeting strict safety standards.  The Daily Record

LIFESTYLE NEWS

  • A food website revealed a hack to turn a Big Breakfast with Hotcakes into two meals by adding bacon and cheese to form a Bacon, Egg and Cheese Biscuit, saving $5 to $6, and Wooster diners can try this tip at local McDonald's (which serves breakfast until 10:30 or 11 a.m.).  The Daily Record

SPORTS NEWS

  • Judah Layton and Brent Hofstetter scored hole-in-ones on No. 14 at Fire Ridge Golf Course in early May—Layton hit his ace May 3 from blue tees using a five iron and Hofstetter recorded his ace May 11 from white tees with an eight iron.  The Bargain Hunter
  • The Hillsdale Falcons won 19-0 against Medina Christian Academy in their sectional tournament opener on May 13 before facing Dalton on Thursday and Norwayne soon after. Coach Nicole Smith said the game let the team work on new pitches + refine their defense ahead of Monday's district semifinal.  The Daily Record
  • Final Wooster Daily Record baseball power rankings put the Generals third after their 7-2 win over Lexington on Monday; the team remains undefeated in Ohio Cardinal Conference play. Waynedale and Hiland top the list as playoffs loom.  The Daily Record
