- ➤ Jarrett Logistics Systems is building a logistics warehouse in Wooster that will create 30 new jobs and retain 180 Wayne County employees. The Daily Record
- ➤ Rite Aid filed for Chapter 11 bankruptcy on May 5 and now plans to sell or close all its stores, leaving only four in Ohio, including one in Wooster. Customers can still get their prescriptions as the company transfers them+ and uses $1.94 billion in new financing to keep operations stable. The Daily Record
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ Franklin Township E-waste and Appliance Collection Day will be held on Saturday, May 17 from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Franklin Township House, 132 W. Moreland Road, where local groups will accept old electronic devices, appliances, and battery powered items but not hazardous materials or tires. Pickup services for large appliances will be available for Township residents from May 13 to May 15 for a $25 fee while trustees gather community feedback and distribute safety items. - ➤ Wayne County Commissioners paid tribute to Lt. Paul Mickolick—who was fatally struck while responding to a roadside vehicle—in West Salem and urged drivers to slow down in work zones to keep first responders safe. They stressed the need for caution following the tragic fatality and highlighted work zone safety as a top priority. The Bargain Hunter
- ➤ A safe routes sidewalk project will soon improve access to Winesburg Elementary as Holmes County accepted a $242,278 bid from J. Miller & Sons Excavating funded by a $250,000 ODOT grant. The sidewalk will extend along County Road 160 and Parkview Avenue—leading to Winesburg Park—while a small retaining wall is also planned. The Bargain Hunter
HEALTH NEWS
- ➤ The USDA reported that Ohio remains free of the New World Screwworm—a parasitic fly that lays eggs in wounds—but warned that rising temperatures and outbreaks in nearby areas may bring the threat back. Officials said the parasite was eradicated in the 1960s through a sterile insect program, yet it remains a potential risk to livestock and people. The Daily Record

- ➤ Norwayne’s Brandt Morlock threw his discus near his record and won the shot put at the Dwight Schar Invitational in windy conditions; he made time for Senior Night before his county meet and now plans to compete at Ohio State — his strong effort sets up future challenges.
