COMMUNITY NEWS

  • At Wooster High School, students honored late teammate Maddox Graser — who passed away on April 24 — with a moment of silence before the varsity baseball game; his friends recalled his love for dirt bikes and baseball and plan to ride in his memory.  The Daily Record
  • Wayne County commissioners recognized Rittman for a ceremonial tree planting at the William J. Robertson Nature Preserve today as part of the nation’s 250th anniversary celebration. Local leaders and community members joined the event, which symbolizes long-term commitment to our community’s roots.  The Daily Record

ECONOMY NEWS

  • Chevron CEO warned on May 6 that global oil supply issues could drive Ohio gas prices higher (averaging $4.81 on May 6) and cause fuel shortages in the coming weeks. Wooster drivers should expect rising pump prices if supply gaps persist.  The Daily Record

HEALTH NEWS

  • A suspected hantavirus outbreak on a cruise ship caused three deaths on May 6, but the Ohio Department of Health confirms no Wooster residents have been affected. The virus, spread by wild rodents, remains rare locally.  The Daily Record

SPORTS NEWS

  • West Holmes softball won 14-4 against Madison on April 30 but lost 2-0 to John Glenn on May 4, while both boys and girls track teams lost dual meets to Lexington and Dover. Key athletes recorded notable placements (Ellie Babbitt placed third in the 1600).  The Bargain Hunter
