BUSINESS NEWS

  • Beth and Jesse Hamman announced that Berkey Trophies will close after the current school year and end its operations sometime this summer—marking the conclusion of a business that began in 1938. The company made trophies for many local schools and built a strong local legacy—leaving memories that will last in our community.  The Bargain Hunter

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lexi Troyer from Sugarcreek was recognized as an Outstanding Student at Ohio State University Agricultural Technical Institute in Wooster. She will graduate on May 3 with an Associate of Science in Animal Sciences—she plans to continue her studies at Ohio State Columbus to become a veterinarian.  The Bargain Hunter
  • The Wooster City School District announced that pending board approval, Margaret Davis will serve as the new principal at Wooster High School. Davis (who has spent three years as an assistant and associate principal) lives in Wooster with her husband (the district's assistant supervisor of facilities) and their three children.  The Bargain Hunter

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At its April 24 meeting, the Lawrence Township Board of Directors thanked the Reeves Foundation for a $38,000 grant to outfit the township building with a generator that will serve as a polling place, sheriff’s outpost, and warming station during outages—officials also discussed zoning steps like tree planting behind Lawver Construction and repairs on a sinkhole along Northwood Avenue.  The Bargain Hunter

  • Joey Day was named as the new athletic director at Wooster High School pending board approval and will move from Delaware to Wooster this summer—he spent six years at Marysville High School running 27 sports programs.  The Bargain Hunter
