- ➤ Gas prices in Summit County peaked with an average of $4.24 per gallon on Wednesday, Apr. 29 — several Akron stations offered rates as low as $3.89; this rise follows a 25-cent jump from the previous day and leaves national averages nearly a dollar higher than last year. The Daily Record

- ➤ West Salem 12-year-old honor roll student Ola Melaragno advanced to the quarterfinals of the America’s Favorite Student contest. The contest runs until May 7 (with public votes) and a $20,000 prize may help start her college savings fund. The Daily Record
