- ➤ The Northwestern Ruritan Club met on April 14 at Northwestern High School and supported local projects by donating to Rails to Trails, Read Under the Lights and other initiatives while reviewing ten scholarship applications. Members will send Husky Brigade packages in May—bringing supplies at the meeting—and host their first Parade of Flags on Memorial Day weekend, help with traffic at the West Salem Bicycle Race on July 12, and hold a dinner meeting on May 19 at 6 p.m. The Daily Record

- ➤ Wayne County reported 581 vehicle crashes and one fatality in the first quarter of 2025, with 16% of crashes caused by failure to yield and 17% by speeding — officials noted ongoing safety education and enforcement efforts. The Daily Record

- ➤ John Giltner of Triway High School was named the 2025 Ohio DAR American History Teacher of the Year Award for his strong commitment to teaching history. He received the honor at the DAR State Conference Awards Luncheon on March 22 (after being nominated by the Wooster-Wayne Chapter, which had already recognized his work in February). - ➤ Travelers in Ohio must show a REAL ID or TSA-approved alternative at airport security by May 7—this gives them two weeks to update their documents. Adults need to visit a BMV office with proof of identity, birth date, Social Security number and Ohio residency, and the card costs $24.50 for a four-year term or $48 for an eight-year term—cards will arrive within 10 business days. - ➤ The Falls Prevention Program of Holmes and Wayne will hold free healthy aging workshops for seniors, caregivers, and interested individuals in May at the Holmes County General Health District in Millersburg — sessions include topics such as talking with your doctor on May 14, Alzheimer’s warning signs and healthy living on May 21, and fire safety and fall prevention on May 28, with workshops held from 1 to 3 p.m. Each session offers a question period and provides brochures and refreshments. - ➤ Wayne County Coalitions warns parents that giving alcohol to teens is illegal and can lead to lawsuits, fines and jail time.
