COMMUNITY NEWS

  • The 34th annual Wayne County Home & Garden Show will be held at the Wayne County Fairgrounds on April 26-27; the free event will run on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. and on Sunday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. and will feature vendors, fair food & activities for children including a scavenger hunt and a plant sale. This event will give families a chance to explore new ideas for their homes and gardens.  The Bargain Hunter

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Wooster City Schools has proposed a $67 million bond for a new middle school to fix overcrowding and update old buildings; voters will decide in May and construction will begin about 18 months later—finishing by fall. The 3.4-mill bond will cost homeowners $119 per year per $100,000 in assessed value—while the state will give $9 million to help pay for the project.  The Daily Record
  • Camp Invention will take place at Waynedale Elementary School the week of June 9 — the camp will offer hands-on STEM activities under the Discover theme — as local educators guide students in grades K-6 to use creativity and problem-solving.  The Daily Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Wooster resident Laura Sirot, a biology professor at the College of Wooster, announced her candidacy for the Ohio state senate for District 31 and will hold her campaign launch event Sunday, April 27 from 3 to 5 p.m. at Emerson Farm in Apple Creek—where music, refreshments and speeches will introduce her platform for affordable housing, health care and quality education.  The Bargain Hunter

SPORTS NEWS

  • Dalton sophomores Lily Teague and Hannah Wenger are leading their softball team this season with better hitting than last year—Teague has a .417 average with five home runs and 21 RBIs while Wenger posts a .604 average with four RBIs and 23 runs scored. The team will build on these strong numbers as they prepare for a tough game ahead.  The Daily Record
