COMMUNITY NEWS
- ➤ Comet C/2025 F2 known as SWAN25F was first spotted by amateur astronomers from Australia and later seen on April 9 in the United Kingdom. It will be visible in Ohio just before sunrise on the northeastern horizon until April 14 and viewers may need binoculars to catch this rare event. The Daily Record
CULTURE NEWS
- ➤ Jonathan Heaslet (a former Wayne County pastor) announced his new novel East of Apple Glen, which is set in Ohio Amish country and delves into dark themes including sexual assault, religious barriers, gun control and substance abuse. The novel follows Nathan Sherwood as he returns to his hometown after tragic family deaths and will be available online and in independent bookstores April 22. The Daily Record
EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On April 7, college hosted a lecture at Lean Lecture Hall where fashion designer Soreyda Benedit Begley detailed her journey from factory work to launching sustainable fashion initiatives—she urged locals to sign the FABRIC petition to reform working conditions for garment workers. The Wooster Voice
- ➤ On April 4, The College of Wooster held a Late Night event offering crafts, games, bingo and international snacks to help prospective and current students build new connections. Students enjoyed activities such as boba tea and pizza — which sparked lively conversation — and many left the event ready to welcome future Class of 2029 members. The Wooster Voice
- ➤ Mariah McKenzie ’26, president of Wooster Activities Crew + treasurer of the Black Student Association, described her busy role on campus and plans to boost student participation during her senior year. She received the Dorothy Reid Dalzell award on April 3 + was honored for her leadership. The Wooster Voice
- ➤ Scot Council met Monday and discussed their draft recommendation to reject the dean's proposed demonstration guidelines that would require students to register protests 72 hours before the event. The council based its recommendation on concerns raised at a November 14 public conduct meeting and will send it to President McCall, who has 30 business days to decide—if vetoed, the council may refer the decision to the board of trustees by a vote of two thirds. GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Wayne County residents will vote on council races, school bond issues, and local levies for services—along with measures on liquor sales and a statewide bond amendment for infrastructure—on May 6 during the primary and special election. Early voting is available from April 8 to May 4 at the Board of Elections in Wooster. The Daily Record
