COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Wayne County Dog Shelter always needs supplies and donations to help dogs waiting for a new home—local residents are encouraged to donate items needed to care for these animals.  The Daily Record
  • The Wayne County Dog Shelter on state Route 83 north of Wooster received a $7,000 donation from PAWS that paid for spaying and neutering 66 dogs — shelter manager Sommer Foss said the shelter still needs supplies like leashes, collars, and cleaning items.  The Daily Record
  • Today, the Wayne County Dog Shelter raised its adoption fee from $75 to $98 to help pay for dog care and facility repairs (floors, roof, and plumbing). The shelter is asking local residents to donate cleaning supplies, toys, and other items to support its work.  The Daily Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Lynn Moomaw has been appointed as the new superintendent of Wayne County Schools Career Center and will take over on Aug. 1 when Dr. Kip Crain retires after 22 years of service—she is known for her commitment to career tech education.  The Daily Record

FINANCE NEWS

  • Taxpayers have less than a week to file by April 15 and may ask for a six-month extension (due by October 15) but must pay any owed taxes by April 15. The IRS advises filing electronically to avoid mistakes that could delay refunds, which typically come in within 21 days.  The Daily Record

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Generals rallied with 10 unanswered runs to beat Ashland 10-3 in early conference play—senior pitcher Brady Bowen earned his 23rd win and set a school record while right fielder Aidan McMillan led with four RBI. The team will use the momentum in their second game today.  The Daily Record
  • Longtime volleyball coach John Finn has been named head coach of Waynedale and plans to build on the team's strong past near-home performance. He said he will use his experience and emphasize net play — key in reaching 20 wins — as he prepares for his first season.  The Bargain Hunter
