COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Community events this week include Lenten fish fries served every Friday until April 11 at St. Edward Knights of Columbus in Ashland and Church of the Cross in Wooster, The Jungle Book performed Friday through Sunday at First Church of God, and a Japanese Minoh Kabuki Troupe presenting a workshop on Thursday at the Freedlander Theatre in Wooster.  The Daily Record
  • United Way Wayne and Holmes Counties distributed nearly $1.1 million to 19 local nonprofits to support health, basic needs, workforce development and youth programs. The funds were awarded through a competitive grant process after organizations requested $1.5 million (showing strong community commitment).  The Daily Record

CULTURE NEWS

  • Wooster's first augmented reality mural was hung on the south side of the Newberry Building (149 E. Liberty St.) in the Wooster Arts District; it will display the creativity of local students.  The Daily Record

HEALTH NEWS

  • Twelve health agencies hosted an Amish Women's Health Day in Ashland that offered vaccinations, screenings, mammograms, and health education to meet the needs voiced by Amish women. About 50 people attended the event (including vendors) to receive these services in a setting that respected their lifestyle.  The Daily Record
  • Wooster Community Hospital was named on Newsweek’s World’s Best Hospitals 2025 list—ranking 259th among 412 hospitals in the United States. The ranking, based on expert ratings, patient surveys and quality measures, was announced in February.  The Daily Record

SPORTS NEWS

  • Wooster senior Michael Buchholz recovered from a shoulder injury and earned The Daily Record Boys Swimmer of the Year after posting strong 50 freestyle and relay times. Triway sophomore Gabby Mullen also received The Daily Record Gymnast of the Year award for her standout district performance—adding to a year where local athletes excelled.  The Daily Record
  • Final area girls wrestling stats were released showing seniors Gabi Gartin, Merrick Gibson and Zoey Eades led their teams with winning marks of 79.6, 83.6 and 76.2 percent respectively; the records mark the season's close for the wrestlers. Detailed stats for each weight class were also published to highlight team achievements.  The Daily Record
  • The Daily Record preseason baseball Player of the Year poll features nominees Shane Coblentz from Waynedale, Caden Coblentz from Hiland, Brady Bowen—who is two wins away from tying Wooster's career wins record—and Grant Schag from Triway.
