CULTURE NEWS

  • Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan and will be celebrated when the crescent moon appears on the night of March 29 or March 30 — local Muslims will gather for prayers, festive meals, and giving charity — as the month of Shawwal begins.  The Daily Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • The College of Wooster received a $6 million gift from trustees Doon and John Foster to restore historic Compton Hall with modern air conditioning and an accessible elevator—$1 million will fund an architectural study to plan future renovations to Holden Hall—supporting ongoing campus housing improvements.  The Daily Record

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The National Weather Service and Old Farmer's Almanac predict a warm, wet spring in Ohio with cooler, drier weather in the western Ohio Valley and a chance for late-season snow in the north. Signs of spring such as blooming cherry blossoms and skunk cabbage will be noted—ODNR will share weekly bloom reports until mid-May.  The Daily Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Residents who plan to vote in the May 6 primary election must register by April 7. In-person registration is available at several sites including the Board of Elections office at 200 Vanover St. from 8 a.m.—4 p.m., and absentee voting will begin April 8.  The Daily Record
  • Wayne County Auditor Russell Robertson spoke with over 150 veterans at the Coffee Crew meeting about Ohio’s Homestead Exemption program which lets eligible seniors, disabled citizens, and disabled veterans exempt up to $25,000 of their home’s value from local property taxes. He explained the application process—covering qualifications, savings amounts, deadlines, and required documentation—to help attendees understand how to obtain property tax relief.  The Daily Record

  • Local track stars will compete in spring events as two top throwers—Ohio State signee Brandt Morlock and Notre Dame signee Talon Beichler—lead a group of promising athletes from the area.
