Good morning, Wooster.
Main Street Wooster in partnership with the city and Wooster Rotary Club launched a veteran banner program that will display personalized banners downtown before Veterans Day to honor honorably discharged veterans who once lived in Wayne County.
Applications are due by July 1 for one of 100 available banners — each banner shows the veteran's name, uniform photo and sponsor's name at a cost of $100 per banner.
Local events bring a busy week as The Bucks play community all-stars on Tuesday at West Holmes High School—another Tuesday event is a pork and sauerkraut dinner in Millersburg, with a Spring Ladies Night Out on Thursday in Kidron, a run of The Elephant Man play from Friday in Doylestown, and a garden gnome painting workshop starting today in Loudonville.
The Granary at Pine Tree Barn Restaurant was started 35 years ago to offer meals to travelers buying Christmas trees from the country — today many locals favor its lemon muffins, quiche, and French onion soup.
Steve Tharp Jr. of the Stark-Tuscarawas-Wayne Recycling District has shared a guide that details how to start a compost pile by mixing kitchen scraps and yard waste with a proper balance of greens and browns for spring gardening.
The guide explains keeping the pile moist and turning it to boost decomposition—steps that help reduce waste and improve soil quality.
The Granary, at 4374 Shreve Road in Wooster, began as a snack bar at a Christmas tree farm in the 1970s and is now a full-service restaurant acclaimed for its lemon crumb muffins, quiche, and French onion soup.
The eatery uses fresh local ingredients and a seasonal menu while offering scenic views of a lake and rolling hills—dining here continues to be a favorite for locals and visitors.
