BUSINESS NEWS

  • Dollar General said it will close 96 flagship stores and 45 pOpshelf stores and convert six pOpshelf sites into its main stores in the first quarter of its new fiscal year following a Q4 review—this move affects less than 1% of its overall base. The update may impact some Ohio locations since the chain has over 1,000 stores in the state, including 10 pOpshelf outlets, although no specific sites have been named.  The Daily Record

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Naoko Skala, Chair of Theatre and Dance and assistant professor at The College of Wooster, said in an email interview that she works on many tasks in set design and teaching. She added that her new book on Japanese theatre architecture is set for Spring 2026 — and she plans more hands-on projects for students.  The Wooster Voice
  • On Friday, March 7th, nearly 30 college students, faculty and community members gathered at the corner of Market and Liberty Streets in downtown Wooster to hold signs calling for better science funding — a protest against cuts affecting research. Organizers spread the word through email lists and word of mouth and stressed that fighting lower budgets for agencies like NIH and NSF is crucial for future jobs and safety — a message resonating with everyone present.  The Wooster Voice

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • A statewide tornado drill will take place at 9:50 a.m. on Wednesday as part of Ohio's Severe Weather Awareness Week from March 16th to March 22nd. Residents are urged to review their emergency plans and follow the DUCK method+ get down, get under cover, protect their head, and stay inside until the storm passes.  The Daily Record

HEALTH NEWS

  • The FDA recalled over 75,000 bottles of International Delight coffee creamer after consumers reported spoilage and illness—products sold in local stores are advised to be discarded or returned for a refund. The recall was issued on Feb. 21 and classified as a Class II risk on March 12.  The Daily Record

SPORTS NEWS

  • Austin Holter—who played quarterback at The College of Wooster—left his job as Wooster High School football coach to become the head coach at his alma mater. A search for his replacement will start soon so a new coach is hired before the summer slate.  The Daily Record
