CULTURE NEWS

  • Local churches will observe Ash Wednesday on Feb. 18 as the 40-day Lent begins, inviting community members to attend special services & reflect on personal growth.  The Daily Record

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Ohio hunters checked 232,142 deer during the 2025-26 season that ended Feb. 1 & Coshocton County led with 8,527 deer for the 24th straight year, ranking as the seventh highest total on record statewide.  The Daily Record

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Daylight saving time will begin at 2 a.m. on Sunday, March 8 when clocks spring forward one hour, with astronomical spring arriving on Friday, March 20. Ohio lawmakers continue to review proposals to make DST permanent.  The Daily Record

HEALTH NEWS

  • Ray McDonald gave the Daily Record an early look at Wooster Community Hospital’s new Emergency Center — set to open soon — to improve emergency services.  The Daily Record
  • As spring nears, local skunks are mating and pets exposed to their spray need immediate washing with skunk shampoo. Extension events include a pesticide recertification on Feb. 19 at Kidron Community Center, a Dairy Conference on Feb. 11 at Fisher Auditorium, and agronomy day on Feb. 27 at Secrest Arboretum.  The Daily Record

  • Central Christian (8 to 3 record) boosted its league lead with a 75 to 44 win over Mansfield Christian, and Hiland (16 to 3 record) remains atop Division VI; Orrville and Smithville remain locked in close contests as teams approach the end of the regular season in Wayne and Holmes County.  The Daily Record
