- ➤ The Friends of the Wayne County Public Library are running a 'Be a Friend' membership drive this February; joining or renewing before March 2 will enter you in a drawing for a book-themed gift basket while memberships cost $10 for individuals and $25 for families. The Bargain Hunter
- ➤ The Wayne County Health Department and Akron-Canton Regional Foodbank will host a drive-thru food pantry on Tuesday, Feb. 10 from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at its Wooster office (244 W. South St.) to aid income-eligible families, and volunteers are invited to join. The Bargain Hunter

- ➤ Northwestern FFA Chapter held a sausage fundraiser on Jan. 31 at Heffelfinger Meats Inc. – selling 3,000 pounds and thanking the community along with HMI for their support. The Daily Record

- ➤ United Way Wayne & Holmes Counties is accepting grant applications from local nonprofits to fund mental health services up to $7,500. Eligible organizations must apply online by Friday, Mar. 6 at 5 p.m. to support program costs. The Bargain Hunter
- ➤ Today amid American Heart Month, the American Heart Association urged Wayne County residents to learn CPR, make emergency plans, and join the Heart Walk set for September; online and in-person courses can help build lifesaving skills + community preparedness. The Daily Record

- ➤ Wooster native Ethan Shetler, 19, transitions from playing to officiating high school games this winter due to a referee shortage. He will work over 20 games and learn from local veterans (including Commissioner Ron Dessecker) to hone his skills. The Bargain Hunter
- ➤ Smithville lost 58 — 50 to Minster in an overtime game at the Battle at the Berkey. Brennan Piatt scored 21 points while Jax Riggenbach added 18 as coach Corey Kaufman led the contest. The Bargain Hunter
- ➤ Waynedale named alumnus Jay Vitallo (a 2009 graduate) as the new head football coach pending board approval on Feb. 9. He will guide the Golden Bears football team and serve as an intervention specialist as he aims to turn the program around with experienced players. The Bargain Hunter
- ➤ On Saturday, Jan. 31, the Smithville boys basketball team lost 58-50 in overtime to Minster at The Battle in the Berkey tournament but showed strong defense that set the stage for future progress (Coach Corey Kaufman noted the game had many twists and lead changes). The Bargain Hunter
